World Bank approves $300 million energy efficiency program in India; Kumaraswamy, head of the Congress-JDS coalition, to become chief minister of Karnataka; Haryana signs ten MOUs with the UK entailing investment of $220 million and employment potential for around 1,000 persons; Assam and Rajasthan start implementing e-WAY system; Maharashtra releases new plan to make Mumbai slum-free; Hyderabad Metro Rail to provide electric vehicle charging at its stations.

Center – State relations

The World Bank approved a $300 million program to help scale India’s energy efficiency program. The package comprises of a $219 million loan and a $80 million guarantee to be implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). Source: Economic Times In Detail: Press Release

Electronic payments will be mandatory for intra-state movement of goods valued at over $733 in Assam from May 16 and in Rajasthan from May 20. On April 1, the central government launched the electronic bill system (e-Way) for moving goods worth over $733 from one state to another. Source: Money Control

The central government signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with five states and one Union Territory (UT) to implement Ayushman Bharat, the National Health Protection Project which aims to provide free health coverage of up to $7,335 per family per year for those living below the poverty line.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced a new policy to promote electric vehicles in the state. Andhra Pradesh is the first state to set a target of 1 million electric vehicles to be on the roads by 2023. Electric vehicle manufacturers will get a 10 percent capital subsidy for the first two companies setting up manufacturing units in the state. Source: Financial Express

The Maharashtra government rolled out a new plan to make Mumbai slum-free. According to the plan, more than 1.8 million slum dwellers, who live in tenements built between 2000 and 2011, have been guaranteed rehabilitation. Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand inaugurated the state’s first City Gas Distribution (CGD) network at Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. It is the country’s eighth CGD system. The 310 mile long pipeline will be completed by 2020 and provide employment to 2,000 people. Source: Economic Times
